Pollution control

Fume Scrubber

Packed bed, venturi and impinging jet wet scrubbers for process fumes and polluting gases.

Our scrubbers are designed to treat polluting gases from process vents and exhaust. They are used widely in pharmaceutical, food and chemical industries, where fumes have to be cleaned before they are released.

Which type of scrubber suits you depends on the gas, the level of cleaning required and the application, so we select the type after understanding the process.

How it works

In a wet scrubber the contaminated gas is brought into contact with a scrubbing liquid. The pollutant is absorbed or captured in the liquid and the cleaned gas leaves the top of the unit.

A packed bed scrubber passes the gas through a bed of packing wetted by the liquid, which gives a large contact area. A venturi scrubber uses a narrow throat where the gas accelerates and breaks the liquid into fine droplets. An impinging jet scrubber forces the gas against a liquid surface.

Typical arrangement

General layout for this type of equipment. The final arrangement depends on your plant.

  1. Process vent
  2. Ducting
  3. Fume scrubber
  4. Fan
  5. Stack

Types and configurations

Packed bed fume scrubberGas passes through a wetted packed bed.
Venturi fume scrubberGas accelerated through a venturi throat for fine liquid contact.
Impinging jet fume scrubberGas directed onto the scrubbing liquid.

Features

  • Material chosen to suit the level of corrosiveness of the gas

Maintenance

  • The scrubbing liquid needs to be monitored and replaced or dosed according to the gas being treated.
  • Spray nozzles and packing should be inspected, as scaling or solids can reduce contact.
  • Because the fan handles moist, sometimes corrosive air, its material should match that of the scrubber.
